Smart Grid Research Laboratory (SGRL)

The officers of the division are experienced in Power System Automation, Smart Grid, Security, Smart Metering and AMI related areas.  The division has taken up various consultancy activities which includes:

• Consultancy for SCADA Project covering all the substations in the Karnataka state from 33/11kV to 400kV substations covering more than 1400 substations for KPTCL and all five DISCOMS of Karnataka.  The project includes establishment of Master Control Centre, DR Control Centre, Zone wise Control Centres and Distribution Control Centre for each DISCOMs.

This system is being effectively used by KPTCL even today.

• Smart Grid Pilot project consultancy project for TSSPDCL, Hyderabad at Jeedimetla Industrial Area.  Under this project, various Smart Grid aspects were demonstrated which includes, smart meter, distribution automation, remote transformer monitoring, fault identification and restoration using FPIs and sectionalizers.  This project had mix of consumers like industrial customers, commercial and domestic consumers.

• SCADA / DMS consultancy project for the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Puducherry under the RAPDRP scheme of Govt. of India.  The division handled the consultancy work for the distribution utilities of the above mentioned states.

• Development testing consultancy for IEC 61850 communication protocol and IEC 60870-5-101 / 104 protocol including security are also provided by the division.
