About HPL Department

  • Laboratory was established during 1992 and has been catering testing services to Switchgear industry by carrying out Short-circuit test on Medium and High voltage Switchgear equipment, Distribution & Power Transformers and other related equipment.
  • Laboratory has 2500MVA Short-circuit generator, Master circuit-breaker, High speed make switch, Transformer banks and associated equipment for carrying out the Short-circuit. Laboratory also has Synthetic test facility to carry out Short-circuit duty test on HV circuit-breakers up to 245kV rating.

  • Short-time withstand current
  • Induced Current switching duty test on Earthing switches up to 765kV Class.
  • Internal arc current test on HT Panels, Compact sub-stations, Motor & Generator Terminal box etc.
  • Internal arc current test on Instrument Transformers (CT & PT)
  • Power arc test on Insulators & Insulator strings
  • Short-circuit Making duty tests on Earthing Switches
  • Short-circuit test (High current & Low current pressure relief test) on Lightning arresters
  • Line Charging (LC), Cable charging (CC1 & CC2), Single Capacitor bank (BC1) Switching duty tests on HV circuit-breakers up to 36kV Class
  • Dynamic & Thermal SC test on UG Cables, Cable cleats etc.

  • Design and performance evaluation of HV circuit-breakers and other switchgear equipment.
  • Failure analysis of power transformers & system studies.
