Brief Description about the facility:

The Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Division (ERED) of the Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), Bengaluru, operates a modern Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) Test Facility tailored for evaluating the quality, safety, and performance of UPS systems. This advanced testing setup is capable of assessing both single-phase UPS systems up to 10kW and three-phase systems up to 50kW, covering off-grid (standalone) and on-grid (interactive) configurations. Designed to support comprehensive evaluation, the facility ensures that UPS products meet the stringent technical and operational criteria required for critical backup power applications. The laboratory infrastructure adheres to internationally recognized best practices, enabling manufacturers and users to verify standard compliance, reliability, and operational robustness.

Major Product/Equipment tested with applicable standards : 

The UPS Test Facility at CPRI is equipped to evaluate a wide range of Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) systems, ensuring conformity with the following major standards:

  • IS 16242 (Part 1, 2, 3): RA 2019 – Indian Standard for UPS systems
  • IEC 62040 series (Part 1, 2, 3) – International Electrotechnical Standards for UPS systems

The key tests carried out include:

  • Part 1: General construction and safety requirements
  • Part 2: Evaluation of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) performance under different electromagnetic environments
  • Part 3: Measurement of functional performance, environmental tolerance, and energy efficiency under load and power disturbance scenarios

These assessments cover a comprehensive set of parameters including voltage regulation, transfer time, waveform distortion, overload capacity, thermal performance, and EMI/EMC behavior, ensuring that the UPS system performs reliably under all operating conditions.
