The division established its AMI test bed in 2022. The facility supports the mounting of both single-phase and three-phase smart meters on test benches, with provisions to energize smart meter with load for testing.
The Ministry of Power has designated CPRI as the nodal testing agency for validating the AMI systems of AMI Service Providers (AMISPs) seeking to participate in AMI services under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). The test bed supports validation of both AMI systems using RF and cellular communication technologies. Based on results of validation, eligible AMISPs are empanelled by REC to participate in the programme.
